A ceiling can look similar and behave differently.
Describe any known paint layers, repairs and areas of loose material. Ask the assessor to explain the proposed method and its limits for the actual ceiling, including whether the existing surface is suitable to retain.
The coating type, number of layers and adhesion cannot be confirmed from one photo. A written quote should state what was observed and which method is being proposed.
Four useful things to send.
Wide room photo
Show the full ceiling, wall edges and fixtures.
Close texture photo
Show the profile and any areas where the coating is chipped or loose.
Known history
Share whether the ceiling was painted, repaired or previously tested, if known.
Desired result
State whether you want the texture gone, repaired or simply repainted.
What the coating can affect.

Painted texture questions
- Can painted popcorn still be removed?
- Potentially. The coating and surface condition may change the practical method.
- Can water confirm whether it is painted?
- A response test cannot establish material safety. Seek qualified advice about suspect materials before any test or disturbance; coating behaviour can then be considered within that assessment.
- Will removal reveal a paint-ready ceiling?
- Not automatically. Joints, fasteners, patches or damage may need correction.
- Should I paint it again instead?
- That depends on whether keeping the texture is an acceptable outcome and the existing surface is sound.
