Build the quote around four sections.
Make hidden differences visible.
- Is paint included?
- Confirm whether the quote stops at removal, paint-ready preparation, primer or final coating.
- What if the surface is worse than expected?
- Ask how a changed condition is documented, discussed and priced.
- Who moves and protects the room?
- Clarify furniture, floors, walls, openings, fixtures and access.
- What is excluded?
- Look for testing, electrical work, moisture sources, structural work and disposal limits.
Compare the same finish level.
A low total may omit preparation or finishing that another quote includes. A higher total may include a complete ceiling and room handoff.
Ask for clear line items and exclusions. Do not compare only a square-foot figure when the scopes are different.
Quote questions
- Should a quote include a schedule?
- It should state an expected sequence or timing position and identify conditions that may change it.
- Should testing be included?
- Do not assume it is. Any assessment or testing service should be explicitly identified.
- Is a deposit always required?
- Payment terms are set in the project agreement and should be reviewed before work begins.
- Who is responsible for the renovation contract?
- The independent professional who accepts the project provides the assessment, quotation and service agreement.
